The ItsYourDomain (IYD) Story

     From the beginning, IYD provided domain services to businesses such as web hosting companies, graphic designers and ISPs. At that time, the domain industry was in its infancy. Millions of domain names were being manually registered through only one registrar and that company was making BILLIONS.

     Since there was only one registrar, which coincidentally also managed the registry, the registrar had no incentive to do a good job. They sent commission checks out late, customers had to wait days or longer for answers to basic questions and domain owners lost control of their domains. Simple DNS changes took weeks and ownership transfers took months.

     In 1999, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) was established. Their purpose was two-fold: 1) Break the monopoly held by the only registrar, and 2) Protect the sanctity of the Internet. Although it was important to provide "Robust Competition" it would be a mistake to approve companies that did not have the skills to provide secure and competent services to the public.

     After a lengthy and complicated approval process, in April 2000 ICANN determined that IYD met all the requisites for accreditation. IYD immediately began to register domain names for the .com, .net and .org TLDs directly into the registry and established its purpose: To offer domain names as "The Wholesale Registrar" and treat Affiliates with respect, integrity and in such a manner as IYD would want to be treated."

     IYD was the first to introduce and still promotes two unique affiliate programs. The Transparent Affiliate Program allows affiliates to service their own customers. IYD charges wholesale prices, the affiliate sells retail and IYD stays completely behind the scenes and transparent. This allows the affiliate to customize their own brand and promote affiliate sign-ups from their site to generate additional profits. The Co-Branded Affiliate Program uses a quick link or domain look-up box to point customers to IYD's website. A Co-Branded Affiliate earns commissions on all sales that come through its site.

     Today, with over 11,000 affiliates around the world IYD has revolutionized the business of reselling domain names and the speed at which domain names move today. Despite the flood of registrars who have attempted to duplicate IYD's original tools, IYD remains on the cutting-edge of developing new tools and services that ultimately profit affiliates and their customers.

     Though we don't know what the future may hold, we do know IYD will have a part in it by continuing to service affiliates.
